PRESIDENT Macapagal-Arroyo is inclined to call a special session of Congress to ensure the passage of four tax measures deemed necessary to avert a credit downgrade and a burgeoning budget deficit.
"I may have to call a special session,'' Ms Arroyo told Inquirer editors and executives on Thursday.
But the Senate majority would prefer that marathon sessions were held in lieu of a special session in order to pass the tax measures Malaca[currency]ang wants approved before the Christmas break.
Congress is set to go on Yuletide break from Dec. 17 to Jan. 10 next year.
The decision to hold marathon sessions was reached by the 14-member Senate majority in caucus yesterday, according to Majority Leader Francis Pangilinan.
