Wellington, Dec 1 - One quarter of New Zealanders diagosed HIV positive so far this year are women and children.
Latest figures from the AIDS Epidemiology Group at Otago University disclose 108 HIV positive cases to the end of September -- 23 women and four children among them.
The children were infected through being born to an infected mother.
Two were born to mothers whose HIV was diagnosed only after delivery.
Key health groups working in the AIDS area said today there was no room for complacency about HIV and AIDS in New Zealand -- especially among women and children.
