SYDNEY, Dec 1 Asia Pulse - Telstra Corp Ltd (ASX:TLS) today refused to comment on speculation that chief executive Ziggy Switkowski was set to step down.
"Telstra doesn't comment on speculation," Telstra spokesman Michael Grealy said.
The Australian Financial Review reported that the Telstra board was set to consider Dr Switkowski's future at a board meeting today.
Rumours of Dr Switkowksi's impending departure have swept the market over the past week, helping to send Telstra shares to the highest level since their full year results were announced in August.
Possible replacements for Dr Switkowski include Telstra group managers David Moffatt, David Thodey or Bruce Akhurst.
Dr Switkowski's future has been under a cloud for most of this year, after a boardroom furore and lagging revenue growth for Australia's biggest telco.
Dr Switkowski lost one of his most ardent supporters when former chairman Bob Mansfield quit in April after a boardroom split over failed plans to buy newspaper group John Fairfax Holdings.
