I AGREE with the letter "Inefficient enforcement to blame" (NST, Nov 23) in the matter of illegal immigrants.
We have adequate laws to penalise illegal immigrants as well as their employers. Unfortunately, it seems that the enforcement of these laws has not been taken seriously. Or perhaps there is a lack of will power to enforce the laws.
Take the example of the amnesty for illegal immigrants. Technically, it expired on Nov 14.
Following a request from the Indonesian Government, it was reported that the Cabinet agreed to extend it to assist those waiting for their salaries or tickets for their passage home to Indonesia.
Strangely, the Government has not announced the new expiry date for the amnesty.
