Outcomes in primary lumbar microscopic disc surgery depend on the surgeon's expertise, researchers in Germany find. Studies concerning intraoperative complications and their influence on the clinical outcome of microscopic disc surgery are quite rare, and complication rates vary between 1.5 percent and 15.8 percent. A correlation between the surgeon's experience and the complication rate may be expected, the researchers say.
