Student suicide has become an epidemic on campuses across the United States. It's the third leading cause of death among Americans age 15 to 24 (after accidents and homicides) and the second among college students that age (after accidents).

College students kill themselves only half as often as others the same age. Fewer severely disturbed youth may attend or remain in college. Another factor may be the reduced availability of guns, the weapon of choice for 60% of suicides overall.

Still, the campus rate is alarming. One student in 10 has considered suicide and one in 12 has a suicide plan. Each year one in 60 attempts suicide. With an annual suicide ...
