More funds for women's sports are being proposed by the NCAA Division 1 Management Council, among 131 proposals to be considered in January. Proposals include more spending on women's sports, more rules for women's team coaches, and of course a heavy focus on men's football and basketball.
One proposal aims to increase the maximum number of scholarships in some women's sports. Women's gymnastics, volleyball, cross-country/track and field, and soccer all stand to increase scholarships, which would help schools comply with Title IX regulations requiring schools to give female athletes the same ratio of scholarship funds as the ratio of female players on varsity teams.
