With being overweight identified as a national problem, Mississippi University for Women is sponsoring ShapeUp and ShipOut, a program designed to promote good health. Organized by the Office of Recreation and Fitness and the graduate program in health education, the program teaches and encourages MUW students and employees to lose weight and win prizes.

More than 200 women have signed up in two-person teams, which agreed to work out three times a week at the school's fitness center, attend bi-weekly weighing-ins and attend educational sessions. A contest among teams lasts eight weeks and ...
