In a 20-year study evaluating its policy of optional SAT scores for admission, Bates College ME reported no difference in academic performance or graduation rates between 7,000 submitters and non-submitters.
Bates did find a difference in its applicant pool, which has nearly doubled since it dropped the SAT as an admission requirement in 1984. And its student body has become significantly more diverse.
