Those Minor Little Countries Nile Gardiner, "The Myth of U.S. Isolation," Heritage Foundation Web Memo No. 558, September 2004 (heritage.org)

The President's political opponents have made much of America's supposed isolation in the war on terror, often going so far as to dismiss the country's allies as unimportant or irrelevant. Nile Gardiner, a Briton working at the Heritage Foundation, uses current evidence to reveal how fraudulent this characterization is.

Gardiner points out that "The United States retains the political support of many key allies, from Tokyo to Warsaw. In fighting the war on terror, the United States has assembled one of the greatest international coalitions the world has seen." Gardiner particularly emphasizes the enduring strength of the U.S. alliance with Great Britain, the world's second-most-powerful nation diplomatically and militarily, and the world's fourth biggest economy.
