The Fort Worth-born Coleman picked up his first saxophone when he was 14 and taught himself to sight-read from a how to book for the piano. And so began the career of one of free jazz's most legendary and often controversial pioneers. Coleman's appearance in Austin is quite the coup for UT's Performing Arts Center.
