POINT GUARD Freshman Daniel Gibson will be the floor general for the No. 16 Longhorns. At 6-foot-6, Gibson is more of a combo guard than the prototypical point guard. The Houston native is a deadly shooter, the likes of which Texas fans have never seen from the point guard position. He went 7-for-9 from behind the 3-point line in Texas' two exhibitions games.
Turnovers are Gibson's Achilles heel, but Barnes has been impressed by the freshman's desire to get better each day.
"Daniel is physically gifted, obviously, but I just like his attitude," Barnes said. "I think he is getting a better feel for his teammates and learning where he needs to get them the ball to be effective." Junior Kenton Paulino, a solid shooter himself, is Gibson's backup. Paulino started for Texas last season, so his experience will be beneficial in the event that Gibson struggles or is in foul trouble.
