Q What information is in the revised HSE leaflet INDG136, following amendments to the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (Amendment) Regulations 2002?
A The leaflet has been revised following the COSHH (Amendment) Regulations 2003, and includes new information on:
* recording and reviewing risk assessments;
* prioritising control measures;
* drawing up emergency plans and procedures for incidents involving hazardous substances;
* worker instruction/training; and
* updating information when work significantly changes.
The leaflet outlines step-by-step what COSHH requires and describes eight basic measures employers should take to control hazardous workplace exposure to protect the health of employees. The HSE estimates that around 1.3 million British businesses engage in activities that bring them under COSHH. The leaflet is aimed at safety representatives, practitioners and anyone interested in protecting the health of workers and others.
