Colombo, 18 November: Sri Lanka's Tamil Tiger rebels on Thursday [17 November] accused President Chandrika Kumaratunga of misleading the international community with "deceit" and said they had "checkmated" her over the peace process.

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) said they requested the government to "stop cheating the international community and the country and put an end to their deceitful acts by publicly stating their policy."
