The huge iron bath was filled with stream water on which floated two short planks. Handfuls of white wildflowers rotated on its surface. Warmed by a fire underneath, it was lit by candles flickering in the enfolding trees and mossy banks. The wood protected you from being in contact with the base of the bath. Them was silence except for chuckles from Nangle and myself as we disrobed and lowered our limbs into the scented water. Nangle avoided getting his long waves of blond hair wet, insisting hair was self-cleaning. He was a da Vinci angel who had been through the industrial revolution. His mouth looked very red to me.
