No team came closer to making the 2005 NCAA Tournament than the Memphis Tigers. There's no need to rehash Darius Washington's missed free throws in the Conference USA title game, but the Tigers were inches away, literally.
It's doubtful anyone will duplicate Memphis' ascent from No. 66 team to No. 1 seed, but several teams could make the journey from just out of the tourney into next season's field.

The Seminoles were among the most qualified leftovers this season, but they'll be far more than marginal in 2006-07.
All the team was missing this season was point guard play. The Seminoles did not have a player with 100 assists, but transfer Toney Douglas, who will be eligible next season, left Auburn because he wanted to play the point. Weil, here's his chance: The ball is in his hands, and he has weapons--Al Thornton, Johnson, Jason Rich and Isaiah Swann--at every position.
