INTERNATIONAL container traffic to and from the US would come to a standstill if one of the more extreme proposals now before Congress is adopted, a powerful group of shipowners predicted yesterday.

The World Shipping Council, which represents liner shipping interests in Washington, fully supports steps already enacted to tighten security along the supply chain and agrees with some of the additional measures now under consideration.
