I don't agree with the "my bigotry is bigger than your bigotry" logic that Richard Goldstein uses [Left Hook, February 28]. He claims that because homophobia has not "played a central role in American history" as racism has, it is somehow different ("lesser" is inferred) and not comparable. I would argue that homophobia has no history in America because most of our history was suppressed as gays. Our very identifies were repressed and in many cases oppressed....
