This is a heartbreaking book and--I usually don't say this about heart-breaking books--one that should be widely read. In purpose it is not a commentary on the gender differences as they play out in the area of group conflict war and peace, or even a litany of the greater suffering women suffered in this and other conflicts, although Hunt's passion on both those points breathes on every page.
