SEOUL, April 3 Asia Pulse - South Korea's first astronaut, scheduled to be put into orbit in 2008, will be selected and trained by the air force, military officials said Saturday.
The air force's Aerospace Medical Center will be responsible for the detailed screening and feasibility test for the astronaut candidates, according to the air force.
The center, originally Aero Medical Center, was renamed Saturday.
"The center, through careful planning, has been preparing to acquire the speciality and system of space-related medicine for some time," said Chung Ki-young, head of the center's committee involved in the selection of the astronaut.
