SEOUL, April 3 Asia Pulse - South Korea's gain in consumer prices slowed down in March, as a fall in prices of agricultural products offset a rise in service charges and oil prices, a government report showed Monday.
Consumer prices in Asia's fourth-largest economy fell by a seasonally-adjusted 0.1 per cent in March from the previous month, compared with a 0.1 per cent monthly gain the previous month, according to the report by the National Statistical Office (NSO).
From a year ago, the March consumer prices rose 2.0 per cent, slowing from a 2.3-percent annual rise the previous month, the office said.
The March annual gain was lower than a median forecast of 2.4 per cent in a poll by Yonhap Infomax, the financial news arm of Yonhap News Agency.
The inflation rate is expected to remain steady, below 3 per cent for the time being, as a sharp pickup in domestic consumption is likely to be limited to some degree, the office said.
The South Korean government wants to keep the annual inflation gain below 3 per cent.
