SEOUL, April 3 Asia Pulse - Chung Mong-koo, chairman of South Korea's largest automaker Hyundai Motor Co., abruptly left for the United States on Sunday as the prosecution expanded its investigation into a major lobbying scandal involving South Korea's largest auto-making group.
Hyundai Motor officials said Chung's trip had long been scheduled and had nothing to do with the prosecution's probe.
While in the U.S., he will inspect Hyundai's plant in Alabama and check his company's plan to build a second U.S. plant in nearby Georgia, they said.
