Sam Schmidt seems to like the last-minute suspense of qualifying for the Indianapolis 500.
A week ago, the Henderson resident didn't have a car to enter in the Indy Racing League's premier IndyCar race of the year.
He was content with his team in the IRL's developmental Infiniti Pro Series. Although his driver in that series, Thiago Medeiros, won Saturday's 100-mile race, Schmidt wasn't ready to give up on fielding a car in the Indy 500.
