The supervisory board of DaimlerChrysler, the German-US automobile group, has approved the second stage of the restructuring programme for Smart, the group's loss-making compact car brand. A declaration of intent has been signed with Japanese partner Mitsubishi Motors to come to an agreement on stopping production of the Smart ForFour. The four-seater model is built at the companies' joint work in Born, the Netherlands.
