An internal electrical short could cause battery cells to overheat and melt or char the plastic case, posing burn and fire hazards.
Products: 85,000 rechargeable lithium-ion battery packs sold in the U.S. from 3/04 through 5/05 at computer and electronics stores, online at various sites, including hp.com and hpshopping.com, for $100 to $130 separately, as well as with various notebook computers. Another 50,000 batteries were sold internationally. Recalled battery packs were made from 3/04 through 9/04 and have a bar-code label beginning with the letters or letter-number combinations GC, IA, L0, or L1.
