Shortly after introducing the tiny iPod Nano, Apple shrank its higher-capacity players and enabled them to play music videos and TV programs bought off the Internet. The slimmed-down 30- and 60-gigabyte iPods cost $299 and $399. Below, our assessment of the 30-GB model.
WHAT WE LIKE
* Size. At less than a half-inch thick, the 30-GB iPod is slimmer than its predecessor and about an ounce lighter.
* More storage, same price. Disk space on the $299 player has grown from 20 GB to 30 GB (7,500 songs, 75 hours of video). The $399 player has 60 GB, as before (15,000 songs, 150 hours of video).
* Brighter display. Colors are accurate, if a little under-saturated.
* Performance. Sound is as good as before.
