CHICAGO -- Parity maybe a risk factor for overactive bladder with urge incontinence, Dr. Julia B. VanRooyen reported at the annual meeting of the American Urogynecologic Society.
This conclusion is consistent with the theory that local neurologic damage incurred at childbirth may increase the risk of urinary dysfunction, including overactive bladder (OAB). However, this Pharmacia-funded telephone survey of nearly 3,000 women did not identify a clear association between parity and OAB without urge incontinence, said Dr. VanRooyen of the Johns Hopkins University Baltimore.
