Florida should eventually get enough flu vaccine for all of its seniors aged 65 and older, as well as other people especially vulnerable to the virus, a state official said Tuesday.
Based on vaccine distribution guidelines announced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Florida expects to receive regular flu shot shipments through December. The guidelines steer a large share of the nation's remaining 10.3 million flu shots to states where the most high-risk people, including the elderly, live.
Though the quantity and timing of Florida's share of the remaining supply have not been confirmed, Florida Department of Health spokeswoman Jackie DiPietre said there should be enough so that "those at highest risk will have an opportunity to receive the vaccination."
