Deniz Baykara and Stelian Carabas scored a goal each Saturday to lead host Xanthi over Halkidona 2-0 and into second place in the Greek first division.

Xanthi's fourth league victory gives the provincial club 14 points from seven games. AEK Athens also has 14 points and leads on goal difference with a match in hand.

AEK hosts Olympiakos Piraeus on Sunday in the round's biggest match. Olympiakos has 13 points from six games.
