Mar. 31--Phyllis McCarrick - known in Rocky Point as a tireless civic volunteer who ran McCarrick's Dairy with her husband since the 1940s - died Tuesday at age 83. Family members said the cause was complications of pneumonia. Even briefly listed, her undertakings constituted an extraordinary life: Phyllis McCarrick served her country in wartime, raised nine children to adulthood, poured energy into her village's civic life and worked for decades alongside her husband in their shared dairy business.
