The 2006 Atlantic hurricane season may be worse than 2005, according to Max Mayfield, director of the US-based National Hurricane Center.
Speaking at the annual Windstorm Insurance Conference in Florida, Mr Mayfield admitted he was the bearer of 'bad news' as he cautioned more than 1000 insurance adjusters, mediators and attorneys at the event to prepare for what will very likely be a 2006 repeat performance of 2004 and 2005. Mr Mayfield even suggested that due to the La Nina effect, which reappeared in the Pacific at the start of the year, there could be more hurricanes in 2006 than there were in 2005.
