SMEDVIG has taken over management and marketing of SeaDrill's four semi-submersibles being built in Singapore and South Korea, writes Martyn Wingrove.
The Norwegian drilling contractor will supervise the construction of two semi-submersible rigs in Jurong Shipyard in Singapore and two in South Korea.
Smedvig will supervise construction of two rigs being built by Daewoo Shipbuilding ' Marine Engineering in South Korea, which are designed for harsh environments and drilling in water depths to 3,000 m.
The Jurong-built units will be capable of drilling in water depths to 2,500 m and, like the Daewoo units, will have dynamic positioning systems.
