CENTRICA will focus on growing its upstream gas production business this year by acquiring new offshore assets to offset declines in older UK fields, writes Martyn Wingrove.

The British gas producer is investing in more North Sea gas fields to raise its equity gas content in sales and has a second offshore wind farm coming on line this year.

'Continuing to seek out and evaluate opportunities for upstream investment will be a priority. This will include the consideration of assets outside the UK and in fields which have so far remained undeveloped,' said Centrica chairman Roger Carr.
