GERMAN industrial group MAN is to convert its diesel engine unit MAN B'W Diesel AG into the legal form of a European Company (SE) this year, writes Katrin Berkenkopf in Cologne.

The division, which is the world's largest manufacturer of marine diesel engines, will be called MAN Diesel SE. Headquarters will remain in Augsburg, chief executive Hakan Samuelsson said.

It will drop the B'W, which dates back to the takeover of Danish engine maker Burmeister and Wain by MAN in 1979.
