Feb. 27--MELDRIM -- A 1,700-acre industrial park along Interstate 16 could generate $12 million annually in taxes or be an intrusive neighbor that destroys a longtime community.
About 100 residents in the Old River Road area in Effingham County said excessive heavy truck traffic -- including timber and dump trucks -- would increase safety problems near the interchange.
Other potential problems with the Economic Development Authority's plans range from the sound of a 24-hour operation to environmental concerns.
