NFL labor negotiations bogged down
NEW YORK, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- NFL labor talks broke off Tuesday without a settlement to uphold the league's salary-cap system after next season.
The failure to reach an agreement has caused confusion about new contract negotiations among teams and players.
The Washington Post reported that Players Association head Gene Upshaw departed a negotiating meeting Tuesday in New York and was expected to return to Washington with no further bargaining sessions scheduled.
NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue set a 4 p.m. EST Wednesday deadline for a deal to be in place.
Talks have been ongoing for more than a year, but both the league and Players Association are now at a stalemate.
