DAVAO CITY - The Philippine Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Southern Mindanao assured the public of its price monitoring operations in light of the declaration of a national state of emergency and political upheavals.
DTI XI said they are anticipating unscrupulous traders to take advantage of the situation by jacking up prices of prime commodities to the detriment of the consumers.

BEIJING - Top foreign retailers such as Wal-Mart and Carrefour plan to accelerate store openings in China this year to further strengthen their presence in the rapidly growing market.
"Wal-Mart intends to open 18 to 20 new stores throughout the country in 2006," Gao Jing, public relations manager of Wal-Mart China, tells China Business Weekly.
