AUSTRALIA'S COMMODITY EXPORT EARNINGS TO HIT NEW RECORD: ABARE
CANBERRA - Australia's commodity export earnings are expected to hit a new record of A$134 billion (US$98.85 billion) in 2006/07. The federal government's chief forecaster said the figure, up more than A$20 billion on the current year's estimate, would be driven by strong mining, gas and grain exports. In its first commodities report for the year, the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ABARE) said minerals and energy exports would hit A$101 billion next financial year - up eight per cent.
