JAKARTA, March 1 Asia Pulse - Indonesia has already passed the critical point of an economic slowdown and the economy would keep improving in the coming years, an economic researcher predicted here on Tuesday.
Dr Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, chief economic researcher of the Danareksa Research Institute (DRI) said "after declining three times in a row since October 2005 (in wake of the fuel price hike) the economic index improved in December showing increased economic activities compared to November."
He said the Consumer Confidence Index increased significantly by 8.4 percent from 73.5 percent to 79.6 percent in November 2005.
"We are predicting the CCI will continue to increase in the next several months, because economic prospects are good and income of households are projected to increase following an increase in minimum wages," he said.
In January 2006, the DRI recorded an increase in the CCI from 79.6 to 79.8 percent. The hike was not significant because consumers were probably still adapting to the fuel price hike.
