MANILA, March 1 Asia Pulse - The controversial Ninoy Aquino International Airport-Terminal 3 (NAIA-3) will finally soft-open on March 31, an official of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said on Tuesday.
Liza Mascardo of the MIAA's Plans and Programs Division said the multi-billion pesos modern airport terminal is now in its last phase of improvement and development, on-time for the much-awaited opening.
Mascardo said the NAIA-3 will initially operate with Cebu Pacific Airlines using the modern terminal for its international Manila-Hongkong flights.
So far, the Cebu Pacific is the only airline of the more than 30 airline companies operating in the country that has expressed its intention to transfer to NAIA-3 pending legal issues.
The NAIA-3 is designed to handle 26 aircraft at any given time.
"The legal issues have been hampering the transfer of other airline companies. Some airlines used to say they prefer to move to NAIA-3 once all legal issues between the government and PIATCO (the contractor) had been settled," Mascardo said.
