DAVAO CITY, March 1 Asia Pulse - In anticipation of the outbreak of diseases at the onset of the La Nina weather phenomenon, the Department of Agriculture (DA) has come up with steps to address such concern.
Salvacion Jamero, senior agriculturist of DA's Bureau of Animal Industry, said their office has designed strategies to control and prevent the spread of animal diseases during the rainy days.
Studies showed that extreme condition, either cold or hot, will bring high incidence of animal diseases.
The study also indicated that there is proliferation of insects, mechanical vectors, carrier of bacteria and viral diseases as well as external and internal parasites.
In its La Nina Action Plan, the DA cited several incidence of animal diseases such as Hemorrhagic Septicemia, Liverfluke in ruminants, Hog cholera for swine and Avian pest and Coryza in poultry.
Based on data from the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics, goat in the Davao region has a total population of 322,614 for backyard and 1,584 under commercial, Jamero said.
