JAKARTA, March 1 Asia Pulse - Gas and coal may become the main energy sources in Indonesia in place of fuel oil which accounted for 63 per cent of consumption, a spokesman said.
Assistant for natural gas affairs to the deputy for mineral and forest energy resources coordination to the coordinating minister for the economy Ellyza Mankudu said here on Tuesday, coal consumption contributed only eight per cent of the country's total fuel consumption.
In addition, natural gas consumption reached 17 per cent, LPG two per cent and electricity 10 per cent, she said.
The government, under presidential decree no.5/2006 on national energy, has been trying to increase the share of coal to 35 per cent (including liquefied coal two per cent) by 2025, Ellyza said.
The use of gas is expected to reach 30 per cent, geothermal energy five per cent, bio fuel five per cent, and renewable energy five per cent.
Fuel oil consumption is expected to decline by 20 per cent, and renewable energy included nuclear energy.
"In the short run, we have yet to include alternative energy in our program," she said.
