CEBU CITY, March 1 Asia Pulse - The Cebu International Furniture and furnishings Exhibition (Cebu X) has drawn international buyers despite the political upheaval as a result of the Bonifacio stand off.
"This year, we open Cebu X amidst political jitters. These crises seem to have a way of synchronizing their schedules with our shows. But, as the saying goes, the show must go on. And just like the previous years, I am sure that we shall weather this storm," Cebu X organizing committee chairman Eric Ng Mendoza said.
He was referring to the stand off at the Philippine Marine headquarters in Fort Bonifacio last Saturday following the discovery by the military of an impending power grab.
The stand off was resolved peacefully on the same day preventing the tense situation from deteriorating.
Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has declared a state of emergency to neutralize the coup plot.
Mendoza also lauded the international buyers and the guests who attended the opening of the furniture show.
"I salute and thank our international buyers and guests who came despite the tense atmosphere in the capital region," he said.
