DOHA, Qatar, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Slovak Daniela Hantuchova and Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova were among Tuesday's first-round winners at the $600,000 Qatar Total Open.

Fifth-seeded Hantuchova defeated Czech Kveta Peschke 7-6 (7-4), 5-7, 6-1, and 2004 U.S. Open champion Kuznetsova, seeded sixth, beat Chinese Jie Zheng 6-0, 6-1.
