WHAT was it - shame, fear or just shock? What was it that made an unwed undergraduate hide her newborn in a box, so soon after the horrendous experience of unaided childbirth? Was she so terribly, terribly afraid of society? Why? Just as she had feared, the authorities were waiting to dispatch officers from the "moral control centre" to ensure prompt public justice against this "scandalous woman".

Luckily, and timely, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, diverted the issue to one of sympathy and concern.
