Libertarian William Van Allen insists he's a serious candidate.

Although a Libertarian has never won a seat in the Florida statehouse, the Sarasota resident said he has a real shot at defeating State Rep. Donna Clarke, R-Sarasota.

Clarke is a two-term incumbent who is promoting herself as a hard-working leader in Tallahassee who stands for lower taxes and less government. She was also a prime author on a bill toughening amateur boxing regulations.

The candidates are running in District 69, which includes northern Sarasota County and a part of southern Manatee County.
