RARELY does a player hit two game winning baskets in a row.
But Jerome Paterno of Air Philippines Flight pulled off this remarkable feat and was honored by the PBL Press Corps as the first Player of the Week of the young PBL Open season.
The clutch shooting of the 6-foot-4 forward also lifted league newcomer Air Philippines to the top spot with defending champion Magnolia-FEU, both with 2-0 records.
"My only focus is to help the team be competitive this conference. I didn't expect that I'll win it for my team," said Paterno, who bested PBL Most Valuable Player Arwind Santos and Cesar Catli of Magnolia-FEU for the weekly citation.
The 23-year-old Paterno did surprise everyone, except Flight coach Lawrence Chongson.
