STAR jockey Jesse Guce was right. Neat Laurel was due for a win.
Displaying the big kick that catapulted her to victory in the PSA Cup a few months ago, Neat Laurel captured the Sta. Lucia Realty Cup in impressive style last night at the Santa Ana Park.
"Batak na batak na talaga (She's really ripe for the win)," said Guce of the 5-year-old bay mare who, exactly a week ago, landed second to Dandansoy in the KDJM Golden Girl Stakes.
Guce confidently wheeled the Hermie Esguerra entry at third in the early going before going for the kill near the home turn, where she took the lead from stablemate Royal Catch.
Neat Laurel, a daughter of Fraar out of Salmon Laurel, then beat back the challenge of Lyonnais down the stretch to cross the line with a two-length gap and reward Esguerra the P250,000 winner's prize.
