MATI, Davao Oriental-As thousands of residents and tourists were watching Wednesday's colorful street-dancing parade held during the town's 101st founding anniversary, cell phone thieves struck and victimized several people, including a ranking government official.
The Citizens' Crime Watch here said that suspected members of a cell phone syndicate snatched at least 12 cell phone units.
Marilyn Yu-Mon, provincial chief of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, said the thieves took advantage of the crowd when they took her unit.
