SEOUL, Nov 1 Asia Pulse - An international governing body for civil aviation began a 10-day inspection Monday of South Korea's safety and security measures at airports and on flights, officials here said.
A four-member team from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) will check security measures at the country's aviation authorities, airlines and airports, they added.
The inspection is a follow-up measure to the Universal Security Audit Program (USAP), which was introduced in 2002 by the 188 ICAO member countries in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
The USAP represents an important initiative in the global strategy for strengthening aviation security and aims at establishing a global aviation security system, officials said.
